Service on Demand
Service on demand (SoD) - is a model of service sale and deployment whereby a vendor provides service support remotely. Under this model:
- services are tailored for remote use
- multiple clients can be served
- payment is charged as a monthly subscription fee or on the pay-for-transaction basis
- service upgrade is seamless and transparent to clients
Under SoD, client pays the rent of service. Thus, in contrast to the classical scheme, the customer bears relatively small recurrent expenses, and there is no need to invest substantial funds for the purchase of service and to ensure its efficiency. Periodic payment scheme assumes that if the need for this service is not available, the employer may suspend its use and freeze payments to the developer.
SoD model helps reduce deployment costs for implementation of technical and advisory support, although it does not exclude these completely.
SoD model has the following key features:
- services are provided through the network channels centrally and publicly
- services are provided on a rental basis which assume periodic payments
- costs of technical support are usually included in cost of service
